News Flash: Monarchs Reach Winter Home in Mexico!
This news just in: The monarchs arrived in large numbers yesterday at Mexico's winter sanctuary region. The news was announced by biologist Eduardo Rendon. "Today, all of the roads that lead to the Monarch Reserve are full of butterflies." We'll be back next week with our final migration update of the season. Meanwhile, picture millions of monarchs flying across the finish line as they complete their long migration. Congratulations, monarchs!
Cranes Kids and Ultralights Reach Illinois: Nov. 6, 2009
In a great week, 20 young crane-kids proved they have their act together! Three weeks into their 1,285-mile journey south, they flew three times this week for a total of 130.4 miles gone. Hummingbird Migration Update: October 30, 2009
We know at least three ruby-throated hummingbirds have reached their winter home in Costa Rica! Patricia Nethercote announced the news from her backyard in Guayabo de Bagaces, and she sent snapshots to prove it. Meanwhile, our migration maps show hummingbirds are going, going, and almost gone from Cananda and much of the United States. If you are still seeing hummingbirds, please let us know!

Monarch Butterfly Migration Update: October 29, 2009
For the past week, monarchs have been crossing northern Mexico in higher numbers than have been seen for years. Across which Mexican states do the monarchs travel in Mexico? Countdown to Mystery Class: Three Months to Go!
Happy Fall Equinox! Autumn begins in the Northern Hemisphere on September 22nd. It's a good time to begin to explore the Mystery Class investigation. Do you "wonder" what this global game of hide-and-seek is all about? Explore the relationship between the sunlight and seasons. Begin close to home by observing the seasonal changes taking place in your own town. Watch for additional "Countdown" messages each month until Mystery Class begins in February.
Tulip Test Gardens: Update October 8, 2009
What is a tulip bulb? Science begins with observation. Learn to look at your bulb closely. Draw it, and compare it with others. How would you describe it? New Journey North tulip garden maps give us a good view of Europe and Asia. Watch for gardens to appear on the other side of the globe this fall! Brush up on map reading with weather maps. And, try an experimental garden to compare with your official Journey North garden.

Welcome to the 2009 Symbolic Monarch Butterfly Migration. Let's send butterflies to Mexico! The postmark deadline is approaching – October 13 – only a few weeks away. Learn about the 4 things you will need to make, print, and mail. We want your class butterflies to complete a successful migration! Read carefully.
